Rabbi Chaim Richman

The theme of love resonates and resounds in this week’s Torah portion of Va’etchanan, and this Shabbat is known as ‘the Sabbath of Consolation’ and itself conveys a message of Divine love. Our Torah portion features the Shema prayer, the ultimate declaration of faith in the Oneness of the Creator…and we are commanded to love G-d ‘with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might.’ But how do we go about loving G-d? How could Torah command us concerning what we should be feeling? And how do we get to know G-d well enough to love Him? What does it really mean to love Him with all our heart, soul, and might?

The Torah portion of Va'Etchanan (Deuteronomy 3 : 23 - 7 : 11) is read on Shabbat Nachamu - the 'Sabbath of Consolation' - Menachem Av 15, 5782 – August 13, 2021
