Are Jewish people allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving or is it considered following the ways of the Goyim?

Reb Moshe Feinstein Zt"l wrote in one place that it's Assur to celebrate Thanksgiving, however in a later Teshuva he wrote that it's permitted to celebrate a day to thank God as long as it isn't made into a big deal like it's a Mitzvah and such...! How can we understand this, as this is a seeming contradiction?
