Rabbi Aharon Weinberg

On Thursday evening July 31 2014, Rav Ahron Weinberg spoke on behalf of the CHAZAQ organization at Yeshiva Ohr HaChaim in Queens, NY about preparing for Tisha B’Av.

He emphasized that if we mourn properly for the destruction of the Temple then we will merit witnessing its rebuilding. He taught that the 21 days from Rosh Hashana to Semini Atzeret parallel the 21 days of the three weeks. The day of Tisha B’Av contains within it the penimios of a chag. He lamented how Klal Yisroel all over the world is in need of so many yeshuahs. He analogized the pain that Hakodesh Baruch Hu feels about the destruction of the Temples to the pain a father would feel if his only son died under the chuppah. He explained that this is how we have to cry. We have to feel this pain that Hashem feels. We have to cry with shock and awe like the destruction just happened. Eicha expresses tremendous overwhelming wonder and pain. He declared that all generations have to feel this loss of the Beis Hamikdosh. “It’s a high high day.” It is fresh new pain every year. He noted that Lel Pesach and Tisha B’”A are always on the same day. They are connected. He enumerated these connections such as eating the egg, freedom from galus. He taught that while Pesach commemorates the Jewish people’s greatest jump from low to high, Tisha B’Av commemorates our greatest downfall.

A person should feel every second that a yeshua can happen and will happen. Hashem will reward us for feeling pain and shock of the chorban.
