When Hakadosh Baruch Hu created the world, during twilight right before Shabbat he created a worm called The Shamir.

The creature was able to cut through stone just by looking at it.

This creature was an integral part in the creation of the second Bet Hamikdash since metal tools were not allowed to be used in the building of the Bet Hamikdash.
