The sages state that creation is divided into 3 eras of 2000 years each: an era of chaos, an era of Torah, and an era of Mashiach. In parashat Lech Lecha we read about the first converts to monotheism, to the pure faith in one God, made by Abraham, which the sages identify as the inception of the era of Torah. Yet, this is a homiletic statement that cannot be understood literally. What is the true meaning of the time of Mashiach and how should we understand the fact that in our own times, well into the third era of 2000 years the Mashiach has still not come?
